Nick Rewind DVDs Coming to Stores?

For the past couple of years, Nickelodeon has been releasing DVDs of older shows exclusively through Amazon.com. These Burn-on-demand DVDs include sets of Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, and Doug. Because the actual DVD sets are manufactured when someone orders them, they are not being sold in stores. Now, rumor has it that these sets will soon be available in retail stores nationwide, starting in 2011. The following link is from tvshowsondvd.com:

Apparently, industry insiders are saying that shows like "The Angry Beavers" and "Ahhh!! Real Monsters" are scheduled to be released early next year, although there is no official word on this. And, there is no telling what shows Nickelodeon will be releasing, besides these two. Maybe the whole "Create Space" Amazon experiment was popular, and they're resurrecting the "Nick Rewind" brand after all these years.

For those who don't remember, Nickelodeon released the first season of "Clarissa" and the first two season of "Pete and Pete" in 2005 in retail stores, under the "Nick Rewind" banner. However, no other shows were released, until around 2008, when Nick struck a deal with Amazon to release select shows.

Personally, I hope this leads to the release of the last season of "Pete and Pete", and well as the rest of "Clarissa" on DVD. I love both of these shows, and it's a shame I can't watch them in their entirety.

Classic Nick Movement: Progress in 5 Years

Today, I was thinking about the last 5 years, in terms of this whole "Classic NIckelodeon" movement, if you can call it that. It seems that around 2004/2005, as the internet was growing, message boards, websites, and petitions started popping up everywhere about bringing back the Nickelodeon of the 80's and 90's. When I first discovered this whole underground movement some 5 years ago, all we had to quench our thirst for Nick's past were old VHS tapes, if we could find them. Now, we're at the end of 2010, and although it may not seem like we've made any progress, I just thought I'd recap all the things we've gotten. Maybe signing all those internet petitions and writing all those letters to Nickelodeon actually paid off.

When it comes to DVDs, we now have the following:

Clarissa Explains it All: Season 1
The Adventures of Pete and Pete: Season 1
The Adventures of Pete and Pete: Season 2
(note: the following are only available on amazon.com)
Doug - Season 1
Doug - Season 2
Doug - Season 3
Doug - The Best of Season 4
The Best of Rocko's Modern Life - Volume 1
The Best of Rocko's Modern Life - Volume 2

CatDog - Season 2 Volume 1
CatDog - Season 2 Volume 2
CatDog - Season 3
The Angry Beavers - The Best Of Season 1
The Angry Beavers - The Best Of Season 2
The Angry Beavers - The Best Of Season 3
The Wild Thornberrys - Season 1
The Wild Thornberrys - Season 2 Volume 1
The Wild Thornberrys - Season 2 Volume 2
The Wild Thornberrys - Season 3 Volume 1
The Wild Thornberrys - Season 3 Volume 2

The Wild Thornberrys - Season 5
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters - Season 1
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters - Season 2

Aaahh!!! Real Monsters - Season 4

As for iTunes and other internet downloads, we have the following:

Rugrats: Best of Vol. 1-3
Hey Arnold!: Seasons 1-3
Doug: Seasons 1-3
Rocko's Modern Life: Best of Vol. 1-3
Rocket Power: Best of Vol. 1-2
The Amanda Show: Best of Vol. 1-2
Clarissa Explains It All: Best of Vol. 1-2
The Angry Beavers: Best of Vol. 1-3
Hey Dude: Seasons 1-2
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters: Seasons 1-4
The Wild Thornberrys: Best of Vol. 1-3
Salute Your Shorts: Volumes 1-2
Invader Zim: Volumes 1-3
The Secret World of Alex Mack: Seasons 1-2
The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo: Season 1
Gullah Gullah Island: Season 1

Plus, if you have Comcast Cable, you get "Nick Rewind" OnDemand for free. This includes 4 episodes of Doug, The Angry Beavers, and Hey Arnold!, and 8 episodes of Rugrats. Every couple of months, they put up a new batch of episodes, so that is the closest thing we have right now to a "Nick Rewind" channel.

So keep on writing those letters and sending those emails to Nickelodeon, because who knows, maybe they actually are listening.

Rugrats Returning to Nickelodeon?

While surfing the internet today, I came across some news that the Rugrats, one of the three first Nicktoons, is returning to Nickelodeon. While I was skeptical at first, I checked my TV listings and found that this is in fact true.

Two episodes of the Rugrats are scheduled to air Monday, December 27, at 9:00am and 9:30am. The episodes are
#92, “Chuckie’s Duckling / A Dog’s Life” and #93, “Chuckerfly / Angelica’s Twin”, both of which originally aired in 1999.

My personal TV listings don't show the Rugrats airing anytime after that, but this quote was taken from an article on the website nickandmore.com:

"The Rugrats Movie (1998) is also scheduled to air on Nick@Nite on Sunday, December 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The scheduled episodes are:

Monday, December 27
9:00AM #92 “Chuckie’s Duckling / A Dog’s Life”
9:30AM #93 “Chuckerfly / Angelica’s Twin”

Tuesday, December 28
9:00AM #94 “Rasing Dil / No Naps”
9:30AM #97 “Baking Dil / Hair!”

Wednesday, December 29
9:00AM #99 “The Magic Baby / Dil We Meet Again”
9:30AM #100 “Hand Me Downs / Angelica’s Ballet”

Thursday, December 30
9:00AM #104 “Pedal Pusher / Music”
9:30AM #105 “Chuckie’s Bachelor Pad / Junior Prom”

Friday, December 31
9:00AM #108 “All’s Well That Pretends Well / Big Babies”
9:30AM #113 “Brothers Are Monsters / Cooking With Susie”

While I cannot confirm that Rugrats will air Tuesday-Friday that week, or that the Rugrats Movie will air Sunday, all TV Listings have the show on for Monday, so watch it if you can. There have been rumors flying in the recent weeks that many old Nickelodeon shows (Clarissa, Catdog, etc.) will be returning come January, so I'll keep you all posted.
